On the edge of the largest contiguous lowland peat bog in Northwest Europe, Weerribben-Wieden National Park, lies Klaas De Lange’s dairy farm: Weerribben Zuivel. Weerribben Zuivel has chosen to adapt its operations to the surrounding environment: extensive, organic livestock farming, complemented by an artisanal dairy. For most of the year, the cows graze outdoors in lush pastures full of flowers and herbs, and during the colder months, they stay in a large barn. Great attention is paid to “cow comfort” and animal welfare. For example, the cows can decide for themselves when they want to be milked.
